Shock as Popular South African DJ Killed in Johannesburg.
A renowned South African radio and club DJ has been shot dead in the metropolis of Johannesburg, causing national outrage across a nation battling persistent crime.
Warrick Stock, who went by the name DJ Warras, was shot and killed in the city centre on the afternoon of Tuesday.
Police said the forty-year-old presenter was approached by a trio of assailants, with one shot at him before fleeing on foot.
The purpose behind the attack is unknown and no arrests are in custody, police said.
Details of the Attack
Authorities revealed that Stock was ambushed as he was exiting a location near the city center landmark.
He had spent several hours at the building supervising the installation of safety equipment, which had been reportedly taken over by unidentified individuals, as per local media.
"It is alleged the deceased was confronted by three unidentified men after parking his vehicle, and they shot at him before running from the location on foot," authorities said.
Security camera video reportedly depicted a man with dreadlocked hair and wearing what resembled a protective services outfit opening fire on Stock before making his escape.
The DJ attempted to flee after he was hit but succumbed to his injuries on the opposite side of the road.
It was further revealed that Stock had an unused firearm and it was not a robbery during the attack.
Crucial forensic evidence, like spent shells, were discovered at the location.
Appeal for Witnesses
Officials are asking eyewitnesses who may have witnessed the attack to contact them.
"Evidence suggests they covered significant ground after the attack, and police have been following their trail to determine their destination," added an official.

His sister, Nicole Stock, said the relatives are devastated to process his death.
"I am in shock. I am shattered," were her words.
"Everyone understood he was a representative for countless citizens. He spoke out bravely about topics not many people were prepared to tackle. This is a profound tragedy."
She requested the community to avoid sharing graphic images from the incident, noting this was an extremely painful time, especially for Stock's children.

Stock was the host of Ngicel' iVisa, a reality show that was broadcast on a popular local broadcasting platform.
In addition to his work in broadcasting, Stock was engaged in various commercial activities, including private security, supplying high-level security services and protecting prestigious gatherings across South Africa.
He was also understood to participate in real estate operations and assisted with property reclaimations.

A government minister said he was outraged and heartbroken by Stock's killing.
