The British designer Antony Price, the groundbreaking British fashion designer who crafted many legendary styles worn by musical icons like Bowie and members of Roxy Music, as well as Queen Camilla, has sadly died at the age of 80.

His reputation was built on his defined forms and performative fashion, most notably the light-hued ensembles that appeared in the iconic band Duran Duran's classic music video for "the song Rio".

"They honored him as a 'visionary' and a 'kind, intelligent and razor-witted friend,' the group posted a remembrance across their platforms."

His passing follows less than a month after he presented his newest line in London, his first in more than 30 years. Singer Lily Allen showcased a dress evoking the famous black velvet "revenge dress" made famous by Diana, Princess of Wales.

A Lasting Legacy

Born in Yorkshire in 1945, Price relocated to London during the sixties to attend the prestigious Royal College of Art.

Upon completing his studies, he began designing men's fashion at the company Stirling Copper and was the creator of the form-fitting, button-fly pants that rock legend Mick Jagger famously wore during the iconic group's "Gimme Shelter" tour in 1969.

He founded his own label in 1979 and presented his inaugural collection a year later. The show featured as its opener looks from the famed model Jerry Hall, who was also seen in the marriage dress Price created for her for her nuptials with Sir Mick Jagger.

Collaborations with Icons

A key creative partner of musical chameleon David Bowie, Price created the iconic jacket the singer wore for his "the song As The World Falls Down" music video in 1986.

His trademark skill to fuse tailoring for all genders along with his expert craftsmanship in designing sculptural silhouettes established him as a "one-of-a-kind talent," according to the British Fashion Council.

In the 1990s, he began working on pieces for the then-Duchess of Cornwall, Camilla, including a number of outfits for her tour of the United States after assuming the title.

Following a profession lasting more than five decades, Price held his ultimate fashion presentation in London last month in conjunction with the fashion brand 16Arlington.

  • Defined Shapes: Central to his design philosophy.
  • Dramatic Impact: Shaping the look of rock and pop.
  • Genre-Blending Design: Creating a unique, androgynous style.
  • A Client List from Rock to Royalty: Spanning iconic musicians and members of the royal family.

The fashion world mourns the loss to a true visionary whose influence on style and culture remains indelibly etched.
